BEST 100% electric bus fleet by 2028: Aaditya Thackeray – eGov Magazine


Minister of the Environment of Maharashtra Aaditya Thackerey, said that the entire Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet will be electric buses by 2028. He said at a conference at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters as chairman on 4 October. that each bus that will be inducted into the BEST fleet will be an electric bus.

In addition, Thackeray said that the double-decker buses operated by BEST will run either on batteries or on hydrogen fuel cells, whichever is more convenient. Thackeray is also the Minister Guardian of the Mumbai suburbs.

During the event at BMC headquarters, the civic body signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for three initiatives. These are the Women for the Climate campaign, cities for forests and the e-Bus mission. These initiatives are taken as part of the Mumbai Action Plan on Climate Change.

The minister said, “To build a progressive and environmentally friendly metropolis of Mumbai, quick straps are taken and the three MoUs signed today are important to her.” He mentions that BMC has already implemented several conservation and environmental protection measures. “The segregation of wet and dry wastes and the planting of about 2.5 lakh of saplings under ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ for urban forestry over the past and a half years is part of it,” Thackeray added.

In addition, for the conservation of rainwater, housing companies, government offices and, where possible, drainage ditches should be dug, the minister said. In addition, he advocated the planting of trees as fences around transport islands, flyovers and open grounds.

Occasionally Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said the government had set a target of 15% of public transport based on electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025.
