The program will provide financial support for a project that includes the purchase and operation of transport fueled with hydrogen or green ammonia, and the installation of one or more refueling stations.

Shortlisted MI applicants will be invited to submit a more detailed project plan. Successful candidates for the EOI process will be announced in 2022.

Transportation is one of four strategic focus areas outlined in Western Australia’s Renewable Hydrogen Strategy, which identifies commercial vehicles as an early opportunity to harness hydrogen energy for mobility and transportation. merchandise.

The program is part of the $ 61.5 million included in the 2021-2022 state budget to stimulate the development of renewable hydrogen and will create off-take opportunities to increase local production.

The McGowan government has committed approximately $ 90 million to support the development of the renewable hydrogen industry in Western Australia, and is on track to meet the 2022 targets set out in the government’s Renewable Hydrogen Strategy. Western Australia.

“With shorter refueling times and the ability to travel longer distances and carry more weight, hydrogen-powered vehicles present a great zero-emission transport option for Western Australia,” said Minister of Hydrogen Industry, Alannah MacTiernan.

“With the hydrogen transport industry still in its infancy, we are putting this investment on the table to accelerate hydrogen transport such as trucks and buses, and stimulate the deployment of hydrogen refueling infrastructure. .

“By testing the market’s appetite with a flexible funding program, the Hydrogen Transportation Program is helping to place Western Australia at the forefront of clean fuel transportation.

“The development of a hydrogen-powered transportation system supports the McGowan government’s commitment to move West Australia to net zero emissions by 2050 and create new, sustainable jobs in a growing industry .
